The volume of retail sales decreased by 17% in April 2009 compared to April 2008, despite a 2.3% monthly increase, according to the latest Central Statistics Office estimates.

The volume of retail sales decreased by 17% in April 2009 compared to April 2008, despite a 2.3% monthly increase, according to the latest Central Statistics Office estimates.

The decrease is primarily due to the slump in the motor trades sector. In April 2009, motor trades decreased 50.1% on the same period last year.
