The ISEQ index of Irish shares fell 45 points (2%) to 2,028.90 by 11am.
All the financial heavyweights saw slight gains; AIB gained 4c to 42c with Bank of Ireland up just 1c to 21c. Irish Life and Permanent fared better, jumping 14c to 77c.
