Exxon Mobil shatters US record for annual profit

Exxon Mobil today reported a profit of $45.2bn (€35.2bn) for 2008, breaking its own record for full-year earnings by a US company.

But its fourth-quarter profits tumbled 33%, coming as no surprise with oil’s swift 60% plunge in the final three months of the year.
