FTSE closes only six points up

The FTSE 100 Index barely moved today in another slow pre-Christmas session despite more gloomy data on the struggling UK economy.

Output shrank by 0.6% during the third quarter of the year – bigger than the 0.5% decline first thought and the worst for 18 years – although blue-chips shrugged off the data amid lacklustre trading.
