Sony said today it was slashing 8,000 electronics jobs around the world, or 5% of its global workforce in that sector, in a wider effort to boost profitability in its core business.

Sony said today it was slashing 8,000 electronics jobs around the world, or 5% of its global workforce in that sector, in a wider effort to boost profitability in its core business.

The company said it planned to reduce employment in its electronics operations, now at about 160,000 workers, by March 31 2010.
