The gathering pace of the UK’s economic downturn was highlighted today after company start-ups fell last month to their lowest level since 2001’s dot-com crash.

Only 23,871 limited companies were set up in November – 34% below the same month two years ago, according to Companies House data obtained by the Financial Times.
