London's FTSE 100 Index today staged a much-needed rally after closing at a five-and-a-half year low on Friday.

European stocks benefited from a 6% gain for the Dow Jones Industrial Average after president-elect Barack Obama reassured markets ahead of the weekend by unveiling his economic team.
