The value of shares on the Irish Stock Exchange has fallen by almost 6% in early trading this morning as the fallout from the US financial crisis continues to cause worries worldwide.

The ongoing turmoil comes as the Bush administration haggles with the US Congress over its unprecedented plan to use $700bn (€474bn) in taxpayers' money to bail out the country's financial system.
