Poland aims to join euro in 2011

Poland’s prime minister says his country aims to adopt Europe’s common currency in 2011.

Prime minister Donald Tusk says swapping Poland’s zloty for the euro in three years “will be a difficult task, but possible to do”.

Mr Tusk was speaking today at an economic conference in Krynica Zdroj in southern Poland.

Poland joined the European Union in 2004 along with nine other nations.

Of those countries, Slovenia began using the euro last year and Cyprus and Malta adopted the common currency this year.

Slovakia will join the euro zone next year.
