The number of UK properties changing hands fell by 13% during May as the credit crunch continued to take its toll on the market, British government figures showed today.

The number of UK properties changing hands fell by 13% during May as the credit crunch continued to take its toll on the market, British government figures showed today.

Only 100,000 residential and commercial properties were sold for more than £40,000 (€50,540) during the month, 37% less than in May 2007, and the lowest level since comparable figures began in April 2005.
