UK mortgage lender's profits halve as bad debts soar
British mortgage lender Bradford & Bingley reported a sharp rise in mortgage arrears and bad debts today as its annual profits slumped by almost half.
The company said 6,170 of its borrowers fell three months or more in arrears last year – 42% ahead of 2006 – while bad debt provisions trebled to £22.5m (€30.3m).
