The value of Irish shares declined by more than 2% by 11am today, as the ISEQ index sunk 145.63 points to 6743.51.

The financials all took a hit, chief among them Bank of Ireland (down 33c to €10.16), with Anglo Irish Bank (down 32c to €9.96) not far behind. Allied Irish Bank was down 23c to €15.06, with Irish Life & Permanent slipping 10c to €11.25.
