The FTSE 100 Index veered into the red today as fresh dollar weakness sent tremors through the market.

The pound strengthened to a new 26-year high of 2.10 US dollars against the greenback amid expectations that the Bank of England will hold interest rates at 5.75% tomorrow, alongside speculation that China may move foreign reserves away from the dollar.
