The London market was in positive territory today as gains for commodities outweighed fresh concerns over the banking sector.

The FTSE 100 Index ended a three-day losing streak as investors returned to mining stocks, but Bank of England Governor Mervyn King’s comments that the full impact of the subprime mortgage crisis could take “several months” to emerge took the gloss off a strong start.
