UN extends Irish Continental Shelf boundaries

Ireland has become one of the first nations in the world to secure an increase to its continental shelf, following a major decision by the UN.

It has been recognised that the State's continental shelf extends far beyond the standard 200 nautical mile limit to which every country is entitled.
