Councils criticised for failing to inspect rented property

Local authorities are being criticised for not carrying out regular inspections of rented accommodation.

The Irish Property Owners Association says just one in five residential properties are checked to ensure proper standards, despite the fact that local councils receive state funding specifically for this purpose.
