British Airways flew in excess of 100,000 fewer passengers last month as fliers switched to rival airlines amid the threatened strike action.

The airline reported passenger numbers down more than 4% in January, with 2.5 million customers compared with 2.6 million in January 2005, despite averting the strikes planned by cabin crew at the last minute.
