The number of homebuyers in the UK opting for longer fixed-rate mortgages has increased, reflecting concern that interest rates will continue to rise, research today suggested.

Mortgages Direct found that the proportion of borrowers opting for five year deals increased to 26% in November, up from 20% in the previous month.
