Union representative welcomes Aer Lingus stance
The organisation that represents all Aer Lingus trade unions has welcomed the decision by the Aer Lingus Board to unanimously reject Ryanair’s offer to buy the company.
The Central Representative Council also supported the view that substantial competition issues are at stake.
During the week An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern ruled out the sale of the Government's stake in the airline.
In a short statement the Central Representative Council is welcoming the decision by the Aer Lingus Board to unanimously reject Ryanair’s take over attempt.
According to the organisation which represents all Aer Lingus trade unions, employees within the company have made significant sacrifices over the past number of years to ensure that competition is maintained within the aviation sector.
The CRC also supports the view that substantial competition issues are at stake
Bertie Ahern has ruled out the sale of the Government's stake in the airline while the Transport Minister Martin Cullen is to set out his position more fully after consulting his advisers
Yesterday shares in Aer Lingus closed up another €0.08 to €2.98 in Dublin, a gain of almost 3%.
Ryanair closed up €0.13 to €8.80.
