Labour calls for clearer labelling of food ingredients
The Labour Party has made calls for food producers to ensure that all of the contents of their products are clearly marked and explained.
Labour's spokeswoman on Food, Mary Upton claimed it was common for false and misleading claims to appear on packaging, especially with products that contain salt.
From this September, slogans like "low fat" and "good for your heart" will have to be backed up by scientific evidence under new EU regulations.
But Deputy Upton said that the companies themselves should already be doing more and called for a change in practices.
