Deal thought near as national pay deal talks resume
Talks on a new national pay agreement are to resume at government buildings this afternoon.
There is growing speculation that a deal could be reached.
This round of national partnership talks was due to get underway last autumn, but the process was delayed because of the dispute at Irish Ferries.
Talks finally began earlier this year and it is now understood that a deal is close.
Unions want increases in wages for workers and special provision for the low-paid, while employers are warning against damaging the economy.
Earlier this month Finance Minister Brian Cowen warned workers against pricing Ireland out of international markets by seeking pay rises higher than our competitors.
