Competition Authority official seeks end to CIE monopoly
A Competition Authority executive has reportedly issued a fresh call for the ending of CIE's public transport monopoly.
Reports this morning said Anne Ribault-O'Reilly wanted contracts for school-bus services and loss-making public transport routes to be put out to tender.
Ms Ribault-O'Reilly has reportedly concluded that the current public transport system gives Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus no incentive to make the best use of taxpayer's money.
Her findings are contained in a study attached to the Economic and Social Research Institute's latest quarterly commentary.
