Retailer Woolworths today said a pick-up in sales of toys, stationery and computer games over the key Christmas trading period put it on course for profits at the top end of market hopes.

Retailer Woolworths today said a pick-up in sales of toys, stationery and computer games over the key Christmas trading period put it on course for profits at the top end of market hopes.

The group, which has more than 800 stores, said sales were stronger in December and January after a weaker showing in October and November.
