UK inflation figure boosts rate-cut hopes

The case for another cut in interest rates in England was boosted today when inflation data came in weaker than expected.

Although soaring petrol prices drove the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) to 2.5% last month from 2.4% in August, the figure was well below the 2.7% many in the City had predicted.
