High consumer spending will drive the Irish economy forwards at a growth rate of 5% this year, a senior economist predicted today.

Dan McLaughlin, chief economist with Bank of Ireland, said the country’s strong economic growth was being fuelled by domestic demands through consumer, Government and business sector spending.
