The London market made steady gains today after investors gave a largely positive response to a rush of results from heavyweight companies.

The London market made steady gains today after investors gave a largely positive response to a rush of results from heavyweight companies.

The overall mood in the City remained upbeat with the FTSE 100 Index standing 14.5 points higher at 5278.1 at mid-morning, despite post-results weakness for Royal Dutch Shell and telecoms company BT.
