The Government has denied having any knowledge of an apparent plan by Aer Lingus to make life difficult for staff in an effort to secure almost 2,000 voluntary redundancies.

Reports yesterday said the airline had planned to introduce awkward shift patterns, tedious training programmes and tacky uniforms in an effort to push staff into taking redundancy.
