EU sugar subsidies are illegal according to the WTO

The World Trade Organisation has said that EU subsidies to sugar producers are illegal.

The WTO's appeals body has upheld a decision taken by one of its panels last year, that sugar exporters in the EU are getting more in handouts than permitted under international trade laws.
