PC World to create 55 new jobs
Computer retailer PC World today set its sights on ensuring customers in the Ireland would be no more than 45 minutes away from one of its stores.
The bold plan was announced as the retailer, which sells PCs, laptops, software, digital cameras, printers and accessories, confirmed new stores would open in north Dublin and Sligo this summer, creating 55 jobs.
The first store will open in mid June at the Airside Retail Park in Swords as part of a €10m investment in the Republic.
The expansion programme will see the PC World chain double its number of stores to 12 over the next year and create 200 jobs.
Thirty people will be employed in the Swords store.
In July, the second store will open at Sligo Retail Park, with 25 staff.
Declan Ronayne, General Manager DSG Ireland Retail Ltd which owns the electrical goods stores Dixons and Currys, said the latest expansion plans follow a doubling of the number of PC World outlets over the past year and a half.
“In the last 18 months we have doubled the size of PC World in Ireland from three stores to six and the successful roll-out of our unique computer retailing formula has been very well received by our customers,” Mr Ronyane said.
“We are now planning to complete a full national presence for PC World, after which we would hope that no customer would be more than a 45 minute drive from a PC World.“
