Finance Minister Brian Cowen has indicated the Government will not establish a new scheme to discourage people from spending their SSIA savings.

Many commentators have called on the Government to set up a follow-up scheme to prevent a spending splurge when the Special Savings Incentive Accounts begin maturing in May 2006.
