The Italian government called a confidence vote on its 2005 budget plan today as it struggled to push the bill through parliament before the end of the year.

The Italian government called a confidence vote on its 2005 budget plan today as it struggled to push the bill through parliament before the end of the year.

The vote was due to take place late today in the lower house of parliament. If passed, the budget will return to the senate for final approval.
