Central Bank warns consumers to beware counterfeit cash
The Central Bank has warned consumers to be particularly vigilant about the circulation of counterfeit cash in the run-up to Christmas.
The bank issued the warning while announcing that it had issued €11bn since the single currency was launched in 2002.
It said that, because the demand for cash increased significantly around Christmas, the opportunities for counterfeiters to pass off their wares also increased correspondingly.
