A strong start to business in New York and an upbeat trading statement from Bradford & Bingley helped the London market recover lost ground today.

FTSE climbs after strong start in NY

A strong start to business in New York and an upbeat trading statement from Bradford & Bingley helped the London market recover lost ground today.

The optimism was also helped by healthy economic news on both sides of the Atlantic as the FTSE 100 Index put on 32.5 points to reach 4735.7.
