Phone firm stops service 'for safety reasons'

NTL has warned almost 2,000 customers that it is immediately suspending its domestic direct telephone service in Dublin for safety reasons, it was confirmed tonight.

The cable telecoms operator said it had asked customers in the capital to only use the service for emergency reasons.
