FTSE slips below 4700 barrier

A positive start to trading in London proved short-lived today as the FTSE 100 Index fell back below the key 4700 level.

Although the Footsie soared to a new two-year high in the opening minutes of business, by mid-morning it stood 7.0 points lower at 4699.3.
