FTSE gains eroded

Overnight gains across the Atlantic were not enough to keep the London market in positive territory today as recent gains were eroded.

By mid-morning the FTSE 100 Index stood 6.9 points lower at 4559.5 as investors awaited key comments on the health of the US economy.
