The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) has claimed that the rate of house-building in Ireland is four times the European average.

The federation said the number of houses built annually had increased from 20,000 to 69,000 in the 10 years between 1993 and 2003 and was expected to rise to a record 80,000 this year.
