The deficit on the exchequer account is falling, according to figures released today. For the eight-month period to the end of August, the Government is €600m better off than the same time last year.

The deficit on the exchequer account is falling, according to figures released today. For the eight-month period to the end of August, the Government is €600m better off than the same time last year.

The outgoing Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy, had previously indicated that tax cuts would occur in December's budget, and today's figures appear to support that assumption.
