The Nikkei index in Japan closed up more than 50 points this morning while the Dow Jones closed up 6 points last night.

NEW YORK: the Dow Jones closed up 6.3 at 10126.5.

TOKYO: the Nikkei closed up 50.9 at 11060.9.
