Healthy updates spark FTSE surge

A string of healthy corporate updates helped drive the London market higher today despite concerns over soaring oil prices.

By mid-morning the FTSE 100 Index had broken through the key 4400 barrier to stand 57.1 points in the black at 4412.0.
