Light goods vehicles to be tested every year

The Department of Transport has announced the introduction of new regulations that will require all light goods vehicles to be tested every year.

At present, such vehicles only have to be tested when they are four years old and every two years subsequently.

Announcing the new regulations today, Junior Minister Jim McDaid said he believed the existing rules were inadequate.

He said he hoped the increased frequency of testing would help reduce the number of unsafe and polluting vehicles on Ireland’s roads.
