US retail sales flying ahead of expectations

US retail sales rose 1.8% in March, the fastest growth in a year and more than double private economists' expectations.

The Commerce Department said auto sales increased 2.1% in the month. Excluding autos, sales increased 1.7%, the biggest increase in four years.
