Activity in the US services sector hit a record high in March and was well ahead of expectations, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) reported today.

The ISM's non-manufacturing index rose to 65.8% from 60.8 in February, indicating improving conditions in the services sector. Economists expected the index to rise only to 61.2%.
