In the US, the dollar bounced back from a nine-day low against the euro, finding fresh support from evidence that the US manufacturing sector is in better shape than markets had been expecting.

According to the Institute for Supply Management, the headline index measuring manufacturing activity rose to 62.5 in March from 61.4 the previous month, well ahead of predictions of a fall to 59.8.
