US businesses plead for steel tax

American small businesses have pleaded with politicians to tax steel and steel scrap exports to help combat surging steel prices they say have more than doubled over the last year.

But steel producers and market analysts said the price hike was the result of unfair Chinese competition and probably only temporary.
