The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has announced that food retailers in Britain have committed to a programme that will aim to reduce salt in own brand processed foods such as soups, pizzas and ready meals.

The move comes in response to the British government's call for a reduction in salt usage in the entire food chain and particular concerns over processed foods.
