IL&P denies HBOS takeover

Irish Life & Permanent said today it has not held talks over a possible takeover by HBOS, despite newspaper reports suggesting it was.

"Neither the company, nor anyone acting on its behalf, has been involved in any such discussions or talks with representatives of HBOS or anyone acting on its behalf," Irish Life said in a statement.

A story in Sunday Independent had said the company was in talks with HBOS about a takeover.

IL&P said that while it did not usually comment on what it called speculative stories, the talks report is untrue.
