The Irish Management Institute has announced that Barry Kenny has informed the Council of the IMI that he will not be seeking a new term of office.

Kenny, who joined the IMI in 1995 from PA Consulting, will leave at the end of the first quarter 2004 to pursue personal business interests.

Dr Chris Horn, Chairman of the Council of the IMI said: "During his term the IMI has managed the transition from state support to full independence, and has developed a market-led commercial culture."

He also said that Kenny had shifted the primary focus of the IMI from generic training programmes, to executive development and increased the ability of the Institute to deliver customised development programmes.

Kenny said, "I have served two terms as chief executive, and feel I have made a positive contribution to the Institute during that time.

"After eight years in office, I feel it is good management practice for me to move on to fresh fields and for the Institute to seek a new chief executive who will give added impetus and leadership to the next stage of development."
