Actuarists call for re-think on pensions
The head of the Society of Actuaries says Ireland must re-consider its views on ageing, retirement and pensions.
The society's members work in the pensions and insurance sectors, and president Pat Healy called for a re-think at the Society's conference today.
He says that most people now live on average for 20 to 22 years after retirement, rather than 15 years as was the case 30 years ago, and this has major implications for pensions and healthcare.
