Weaker oil stocks have dashed hopes of the FTSE 100 Index breaking through the 4300 barrier.

Shell and BP suffered from cautious broker comment as the heavyweight pair put pressure on the Footsie, which reached lunchtime 2.6 points ahead at 4295.6.
